Thrifty 4nsic Gal is Happy to be sharing this Giveaway with my Readers. Read below All About Freida’s.
Here is a little about Frieda’s from their website:
For 50 years, specialty produce wholesaler Frieda’s Inc. has been famously innovating unusual and exotic fruits and vegetables in supermarket produce departments. If you like Kiwifruit, Elephant Garlic, Pine Nuts, Sunchokes®, Purple Potatoes or Habanero chiles, you can thank Frieda’s Inc. for its role in introducing them to the supermarket shelves. Frieda Rapoport Caplan, 88, is the founder of Frieda’s Specialty Produce. She began the small company in 1962 on the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market (the first woman business owner there), where she quickly gained a reputation for being open to buy and sell unusual fruits and veggies. Frieda is most known for introducing Kiwifruit to U.S. produce departments, but she and her company introduced many other produce specialties, from Spaghetti Squash to Asian Pears.Frieda’s two daughters, Karen Caplan and Jackie Caplan Wiggins, now own and operate the business, and the third generation, Karen’s eldest daughter, Alex Jackson, recently joined the family business. These women are continuing the Frieda’s legacy of changing the way America eats fruits and vegetables. Learn more about the women of Frieda’s here.
The Frieda’s family includes 75-plus employees and is based in Orange County, California. Frieda’s markets and distributes more than 600 different varieties of fruits, vegetables and gourmet items to supermarkets, foodservice and wholesalers across North America.

The first item that I pulled out and we enjoyed was the Zululand Baby Pineapple. These are some of the sweetest and freshest pineapples that I have enjoyed. Here is the product description offered on their website
Adorable miniature pineapple grown exclusively in South Africa. Intensely sweet golden flesh and soft edible core. The entire fruit measures just 5 inches high. Available year-round from South Africa.
These yummy pineapples were desert for us one eventing and perfect all by themselves, all we did was cut them up, and eat them. YUMMY, they are currently out of stock (at the time this article was written) but check back, you can order them online HERE.
The next amazing item that really interred me was the Stokes Purple® Sweet Potatoes, these are yummy and a fun surprise when you cut them up, here is a little bit about these purple sweet potatoes from the company website.
Special new sweet potato variety with purple skin and bold purple flesh that intensifies when cooked. Aside from its unique bold color, The Stokes Purple® differs from other sweet potatoes and yams in its flavor and mouth feel, offering a favorably dryer, denser and richer taste that is not cloyingly sweet. The Stokes Purple® Sweet Potato is grown in California and is non-GMO.
I also received other produce items that were beyond amazing and impressive, I would suggest that you give them a try next time you need specialty produce, they carry a wide range of products and can order them online. In addition to amazing produce I also received a wonderful cookbook, this is a must have if you are wanting to try unique produce, its the Purple Kiwi Cookbook. It helps you enjoy, prepare and learn about some of the most exotic and unique produce on the market.
Written by Frieda’s President and CEO, Karen Caplan, the Purple Kiwi Cookbook is filled with over 120 delicious recipes featuring some of the world’s most exotic fruits and vegetables. The book includes recipes for items such as Habanero Chiles, Donut® Peaches, Purple Potatoes and Asian Pears, along with descriptions, usage ideas and storage and selection tips.
This cookbook overs a wide range of recipes with some awesome produce, I love the full color photos, and the detailed instructions that are provided, this is a cookbook good for all experience levels. Overall I am very pleased with all the items that I received from Frieda’s and hope to work with them again and try more of their amazing produce. I also love looking at their site and checking out all the different produce available as well as the multiple recipes for each item. Be sure to check out their website and see them all!

There are so many wonderful things that I would love to try, but this one stuck out Crystallized Ginger. I suffer from Vertigo and I have heard that this would do the trick. It would be so much better to take this than a pill form.
